Are you eating enough vegetables? How much protein are you really getting? Luckily, technology makes the answers to these questions easy to find. SuperTracker found on choosemyplate.gov is a great tool that is free and easy to use! First you make a profile and then it will generate personal goals for calories and amounts of each food group. After entering the food you have eaten in a day, it will then have nutrition information based on those particular foods which will be used to calculate how you measure against your individualized goals. The SuperTracker also takes in account your physical activity and sets goals for the amount of time as well. There is a unique tool to look up specific physical activities to achieve the most accurate calculations. The picture at the end of this article features an example of the SuperTracker after entering in breakfast.
One awesome feature, My Recipe, is the ability to add in your own recipe. You can save your own recipe and can see how much it contributes to each food group and what its nutrition. You can then save these to your account to use them again multiple times. Even if you don’t track your own consumption, this is a great tool to use when wondering about the nutrition information of your personal recipes.
Overall, this is a great tool to use to give you an idea of your personal nutrition and fitness plan. You can use it for as little as one meal to multiple days. Doing 3 days can give a good estimate of your typical intake. If you choose to do so, try picking at least one weekend day to account for differences during that time.
