It’s Flu season, meaning that fevers and body aches can put you out of work or school for days. However, foodborne illness strikes at any time of the year, regardless of the season. The Flu and “Food Poisoning” often have some of the same symptoms, making it hard to differentiate between the two. Influenza, or the Flu, is a virus that infects the upper respiratory tract. Foodborne illness usually manifests itself in the form of bacteria, and is transferred to humans via food. Regardless of whether or not you have the Flu or food poisoning, it is important to seek medical attention right away, as they both can be very serious. Refer to this chart from eatright.org comparing the characteristics of the Flu and Food Poisoning so you know what to do the next time you fall ill!
