Peanut Butter is known for its nutritional benefits such as being a good source of protein. It can be a healthy snack when used in moderation. Unfortunately, it’s best to moderate your intake because it also typically has a high calorie count and is a good source of fat.
However, there’s a fairly new product for all you peanut butter fans out there. It’s called Organic Powdered Peanut Butter. Yes, you read correctly it is peanut butter but with a powder consistency. This is because they take out most of all the fat in peanut butter. It has no saturated fat and trans fat (bad fat). This also significantly decreases the amount of calories.
As I compare Green Way’s natural chunky peanut butter spread to JustGreatStuff’s Organic Powdered Peanut Butter I see the huge difference. The traditional peanut butter is 190 calories with 3g saturated fat and 15g total fat. The powdered peanut butter on the other hand only has 45 calories per 2 tablespoons and 1.5g total fat with 0g saturated fat. While protein and fiber also decrease a little it is not by much. Ofcourse, this comes with a price as the powdered peanut butter costs more but you can always buy both and alternate.
How to Use it
All you have to do to use it the same as normal peanut butter is add water. It’s that simple. My personal favorite way to use it is in shakes. I discovered this peanut butter banana smoothie recipe and have been addicted ever since. The recipe is shown below. I love this because it is healthier with less fat and calories and also easier to add when making a smoothie. No mess, no struggle trying to get it off the spoon and it easily mixes into a smooth consistency with a great peanut butter flavor without all the fat and calories!
This item is becoming more popular so your local supermarket may have it in stock. If you are having trouble finding it try a local health food store or you can order online. It also comes in a chocolate peanut butter flavor for those chocolate lovers out there
Banana Peanut Butter Smoothie
1 cup almond milk (or milk of your choice)
2 tablespoons Organic Powdered Peanut Butter
1 frozen banana
It works best when I cut up a banana in chunks, place it in a plastic bag and freeze it first. But no worries, you can just use a banana off your counter and add ice. It’s just that simple and tastes so good!
