The ShopWell app is the best new way to determine what sort of foods to purchase for your family.  Below is a step-by-step example of how this app works.  The best part…. it’s free!

Step 1: Determine your age and gender.   The choices range from “under 1 yr” to “50+.”  The checkmarks show what choices I made.

Step 2: Determine your goals.  The goals range from Type 1&2 diabetes to high blood pressure to lactose intolerance.

Step 3:  Choose what nutrients you want in your foods.

Step 4:  Chose what nutrients you don’t want in your foods.

Step 5:  Chose the category of food you are interested in.  I chose “snack foods” then “cereal bars”

Step 6: This is a list of the foods the app tells me are the best match for my criteria.  The higher the number, the better the match.

Step 7: I chose the “Go Raw Granola Bar.”  The app will then tell me why this was a match to my preset criteria.  It will also tell you the nutrition facts and ingredients.

Step 8: Go to the grocery store, purchase and enjoy!!

This app will also allow you to scan a food item’s bar code to get the nutrition facts and ingredients list.  The app will then tell you why or why not the product doesn’t fit you preset criteria.
