Food Diaries and Children

From the patients that we have seen, they are very proud of themselves when they have completed a food diary.  They sense that they have created something, and they’re right.  They are allowing themselves to become more aware of what they’re putting into their bodies.  By writing foods down, they’re able to “connect the dots” regarding what they’re missing (likely vegetables) or possibly getting too much of (sweets).  It also allows parents to acknowledge the strengths and weaknesses of their child’s intake and exercise regimen.  Overall, it creates bodily and food awareness.  The more we know, the more we know to act!
